What will the filmmaking course include?
The Explore Filmmaking course shows you what it takes to compose a film. During the course you will have a chance to look deeply into what is happening in film making. Different filmmakers will be talking about their approach to cinematography. They will use examples from their work to illustrate and explain their craft to you. Here are the topics that will be discussed in the course:
- Introduction: how does a film get from script to screen?
- Storytelling: what’s the difference between plot and theme?
- Decisions: how to choose budget, schedule, location and kit?
- The scene: how does a director make choices on set?
- Time and space: how does editing affect meaning?
- Sound and music: what is the impact of a film’s soundtrack?
The course will also feature award-winning short films, many of which will be shown online for the first time.
What will the course require?
You will be encouraged to participate in the discussions of the course material on the forum provided by FutureLearn platform.
There are no requirement for any film-making skills or equipment for those who will enroll in the course. Still, there will be extension activities for those who want to enhance their learning experience. If you are interested in making your own films you are welcomed to take part in activities which help you show your work to others.
